Thuppakki

A.R.Murugadoss-Vijay teams up for a movie will surely bag expectations. But ARM tried for experiments in 7am Arivu and failed miserably. I had a small fear, will he try something like that this time also. But he studied well from his mistake and gave a clean entertainer.

Plot:

Jagdish is an Army Captain and also a DIA special agent. He comes to Mumbai for leave. There he witness a bomb blast and will catch the man behind that. From there he starts the investigation and the rest of the film shows how he reach the Villain.

About The Movie:

A perfectly crafted Action entertainer. That's Thuppaki. And the main plus is, not much mass masala scenes to satisfy the fans. But still the movie satisfies fans and also the critics. There's the success of ARM. And Ilayathalapthy did a great job as Captian Jagdish.

Murugadoss had worked well with the script and taken the movie in a way that satisfies all kind of viewers. Can't tell it has a tightly packed script or stand with our logic completely. But the movie won't make us feel such flaws. Hats-off ARM.

Ilayathalapathy simply rocked as Jagdish. Great perfo by him. ARM knows what is there in Vijay and scripted perfectly for him. A superb intro at the starting itself of the movie and from there onwards, an out and out Vijay show for 2.50 hours.

Kajal has nothing to do much. Typical heroine as in most Tamil movies. Just for some love scenes and songs. She was ok and Vijay - Kajal love scenes are not up-to mark. But her looks was worth watching.

Vidyut Jamal was superb as Villain. His looks, acting, everything was good. He surely has a bright future ahead.

Jayaram has a small role and just for a comic relief. Some numbers by him was good.

Cinematography. Santhosh Sivan. Nothing more to say other than the name. Great picturisation by him.

Songs was ok and Google Google made big impact in theater. But some songs were speed breakers.

BGM was apt for a movie like this and its use in most of the scenes has a very good effect.

Positives:

Vijay

Script & Direction

Cinematography

Vidyut Jamal

Some good scenes

Remarks on Indian Army..

Negatives:

Kajal-Vijay love scenes.

Ayaalum Njanum Thammil

I have expectations on every Lal Jose movie and after most films, he make me expect more next time. The same in the case of ANT. Also the reviews came were standing with my expectations. And my expectations kept safe after watching the movie. LJ sir, you are great.
A nice movie with a good plot and beautiful visuals.

Plot:

Roy Tharakan is a doctor. He was an energetic but lazy to study MBBS student. He was just enjoying the life with friends, his lover and don't have any commitments to his studies or the profession ahead. Later as a part of the bond signed in the college, he wants to do 2 years service in a villge hospital and he choose Redemption hospital, Idukki. There he met Dr. Samuel and Roy start working under Samuel. The movie says how Dr.Samuel, redemption Hospital and Roy's life there, make changes in him and how he become a good doctor.

About The Movie:

A nice worth to watch movie. The way of narration, mixing present and past simultaneously, was something fresh to see and was done neatly by the writer duo, Bobby-Sanjay and Director, LJ. The plot is little bit serious. But there is some funny college moments, love and a lot of emotional scenes. In the emotional scenes, we can see the talent of the director. Usually, such scenes give audience time to scream, to laugh etc. But here, such scenes make them sit quiet(Some exceptions were there).

Lal Jose did a great job as the director. Well crafted and his talent make the movie a nice feel good one.

I felt, the writers duo, Bobby-Sanjay was very much comfort in writing this script completely related to the medical field, which is one of thems' actual profession. Nicely scripted.

Coming to the performance, Prithvi is at his best. Excellent perfo from the young actor after a long gap. Prathap Pothan as Dr. Samuel was another amazing perfo. Pothan was simply superb as Samuel. All others, Narien, Samvrita, Remya, Kalabhavan Mani, Salim Kumar, Sukumari, Rima Kallingal etc. had not much role to perform. They wre just the characters passing through Roy's life. Yet, all performed their part well.

Another important one to be noted is Jomon T Jhon, DOP... Amazing camera work by him. The beauty of Idukki, the mist, greenary, everything is nicely picked by his camera. Every Lal Jose movie will have good visuals and when grouped with Jomon, it is at the top.

Music section by Ouseppachan was good and nice to hear. Azhalinte aazhangalil is my pick from the album. The visuals increased the beauty of the songs.

Positives:

Prithviraj

Prathap Pothan

Direction

Script

Visuals

Songs. Especially, Azhalinte aazhangalil

Negatives:

Nothing felt much and if something is there, I don't want to consider that for a good movie like this.

Rating:4/5

NB: A request to Prithvi. You have talents in you. Don't waste your time and talent for movies like Hero, Simhasanam etc. Select movies like Indian Rupee, ANT etc.. You can prove yourself and we all will love you. You can become an action superstar after that.

Maattran

K.V. Anand-Surya team after Ayan, this thought was at the top of my mind while thinking of this movie. Also the successful track of K.V gave me more rights to think so. And I believed the fault happend in 7am arivu won't be repeated by Surya in the very next film. But I was totally mistaken.

The same as 7am arivu happened here. An excellent first half and an average 2nd half. And a poor climax than the former. (Is the genetic story a co-incidence or not in both?).

Plot:

Akhilan and Vimalan are conjoined twins. Their father is a genetic scientist. He will become a business magnet by the baby milk powder product Energion. Later Vimalan came to know about some unethical things happening in Energion production. Then he will be killed in a fight. Akhilan gradually find out what is happening in Energion and how his brother is died.

About The Movie:

Movie has an excellent racy first half. Akhilan-Vimalan relation, Kajol-surya combo all worked out well. But 2nd half put the film in reverse gear. The raciness in the first half lost completely in the second half. The scenes after they went to Ukrayine was extended to hell. Don't know why that much explanation on that part. If they tried to make it more crispy the movie will become a tasty material for sure.

Music part by Harris is as usual. A touch of his old works will felt for sure. But the main plus of his songs, if its visualized well then they will be nice. And the DOP turned Director K.V.Anand knows it well. Picturisation was superb, especially in Nani Koni song.

Performance wise Surya was superb as both Akhilan and Vimalan. He is the oxygen of the movie.

Kajal looks cute throughout the film. But nothing much to perform.

Sachin Khedekhar was good. No one else has much roles to do.

Positives:

Surya

Kajal(Beauty)
Cinematography
1st half

Negatives:

2nd half
Unwanted scenes in 2nd half

Verdict:May end up as a Hit due to Huge Initial.

Rating:2.5/5

ManjadiKuru

Manjadikuru is a 'Malayalam' movie in all aspects. The movie portrays the real village parts and the life of people there perfectly. Hats off to Anjali Menon, the Writer-Director

About The Story:

A 10 year old boy Vikki is coming back to his hometown from Dubai along with his parents to participate in the funeral ceremony of his Grand Father. There are a lot of people in the home including his  uncles, aunties and heir children. Vikki got 3 friends there. His cousins Kannan, his sister and the servant girl Roja. The movie tells the story of that house and the people there in the view of Vikki.

About The Movie:

We can't just say this is movie is good. Its amazingly beautiful. The movie gave us a nostalgic feelings of the memories of our childhood and the villages which we can't see anywhere nowadays. Sure, this is after a long gap, a film like this, is releasing in Malayalam.

The film shows us the Talent of Anjali Menon. The way they narrated the movie was simply superb. Hats off to her for showing perfect control, which is easy to loss in any stage of the story like this. Excellent Anjali and thanks for this beautiful movie.

Performances:

Another main thing to be noted is the casting of this movie. Perfect casting for each and every character.      The four children who played the characters Vikki,Kannan,Kannan's sister and Roja were simply superb. They were capable enough to make all the viewers to be a part of their innocence, happiness, sadness etc.
Felt sad while saw Murali again on screen. For Jagathy too. Hope he will be ok soon and will be back to the field. Great performance by both. No one can replace these actors.
Another main one to be considered is Urvasi. The character as a Gulf lady was nice and perfect. All other actors Thilakan, Kaviyoor Ponnamma, Rahman, Praveena etc also did their job well.
Special Mention for Prithviraj(Vikki senior) and Padmapriya(Roja senior) whose screen presence were for just last 4-5 minutes.

Songs were good to hear. But felt as misplaced.

Rating:4.75/5

Arike-So Close To Life

'Arike', as the name indicates,is so close to life. A story written from the surroundings. After the movie Mayamohni, this is really a different character from Dileep. But the main credit for this film goes to the wrier-Director SyamaPrasad. He did a gret job, both as a writer and director. Hats off sir.

About the Story:
Shanthunu(Dileep) is a simple and decent gentleman. Kalpana(Samvrita) is his lover. They love each other madly. Anuradha(Mamta) is Kalpana's best friend. For Anuradha, Kalpana and Shanthunu are the last lovers of the world. She thinks the world lost the mind to love. She saw only a sexual interest in all the eyes watching her. And she is suffering by her some experience in past. Arike is the story of these three. It shows what happened to each nd where their life reaches as the time runs.
About The Movie:
As I told above, we can see the talent of Syamaprasad in this movie. Well written and nicely executed dialogues and scenes. he movie flows very naturally without ani signs of artificiality. Each and every dialogues is from the ones we hard around us and the ones we told somewhere in our own life. That makes Arike beautiful.
Performance:
Dileep did justie to his role as Shanthunu. Good performance by him. Samvrita also was good as usual. But Mamta was excellent as Anuradha. Great performance from her. The character I liked most is, the character Guruji (Madambu Kunjukutan). His screen presence is just for 5 or 6 minutes. But each and every dialogue he delivered was perfect.Again a special mention to Syamaprasad for the dialogues. Rest all actors did well except Chitra Iyer. That role can be given to someone else.
Songs were not so great. But surely good to hear.
